Preschool Dad's Night

Last night the preschool that I am currently teaching at and where Hudson attends school hosted Dad's Night and the theme was "Start Your Engines!" Hudson wasn't very happy about going to school twice in one day, so he wasn't very smiley. But I love to watch Dusty carry him around and show him off! He's a very proud daddy! I love my boys!!

What a Week...

So needless to say we are tired and resting today! It was quite a week. Just to follow up from my last post, Krista's funeral was Saturday and it was a sweet celebration. The church was totally packed and some were watching on screens in overflow rooms. The ceremony was very special and Krista was definitely honored. The processional was miles long and people lined the streets of Gainesville to pay their respects. It was so sweet. And at the burial we all let pink balloons go at the same time. It was hard to say goodbye, but we celebrate that Krista is spending eternity with the Lord!

So the praise song "Blessed be the Name of the Lord" has been special to me over the last couple of years mainly because of the lyrics listed below and they are close to my heart now as well. Even though we lost our Krista this week, we also received special news that my sister Angie and her husband Adam are expecting their first baby!! We are so excited that Hudson is going to have another cousin so close in age. (He is very fond of his cousin Addison!) We cannot wait to meet Baby Mirkes in April! Congratulations again!

These lyrics keep coming back to me this week. I pray that I will always be able to praise the Lord, no matter what.

"He gives and takes away. He gives and takes away. My heart will choose to say, Lord blessed be your name."

Sweet Krista

Most of you have heard by now that our Krista passed away last night. It was a sweet, peaceful moment as she was welcomed into Heaven. Krista will be dearly missed, but how great that she is now without pain, without suffering, without cancer.

I wanted to share my favorite Krista story. Five years ago Krista was the flower girl in our wedding. She looked like a little angel, with her white dress and flowers in her hair. Right before the ceremony was to begin Krista noticed that my bridesmaids and I were starting to get a little anxious, so she steps in the middle of our circle and says,

"When I get nervous I like to play the game telephone."

So there we were, 8 grown women, laughing and playing along as she passed the secret "Tag is my boyfriend" around the circle.

That is how I will remember Krista. Bright, cheerful, funny, always making people smile. The funeral is set for Saturday afternoon. All of the family are wearing pink, Krista's favorite color. It is going to be a sweet celebration of Krista's life and there is much to celebrate. She was an amazing little girl, who in her short 11 years touched more lives than we will ever know.

Heaven got a little brighter yesterday!

Six month stats

Hudson had his six month check up this morning. After his clean bill of health came FIVE shots, yes FIVE! It was not a pretty sight. There was screaming, alligator tears, red face, the whole nine yards. The older he gets and the more he is aware that it hurts, the harder it gets for me, I mean him. The first picture is obviously before there was weaping and gnashing of teeth from the shots and the rest are from our day. He was very happy when he woke up from his three hour nap :)! I will post more pictures on the official six month birthday! And now for the stats. Duh, duh, duh...

1. Weight~14.5 lbs.
2. Height~25 inches
Both 10th percentile. The side of his shirt says "Little Bug". Quite appropriate for today!

B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

My friend Kim always makes her blog titles from songs, so I thought I would give it a try! Don't ya just love Gwen Stefani??!! Anyway...Hudson is officially eating baby food!! I promise I won't blog every new food he tries, but I thought this one was a milestone worth blogging. He has been eating rice cereal for a while now and I could tell he was ready for something more...so on to bananas!! He was a little unsure this first time, but has since grown very fond. I just pray he continues his love for food and doesn't follow in his Daddy's non-vegetable eating ways. (Love you honey!)

Well, next week is a big one! Hudson will be SIX months old! We go to his six month appointment on Monday, so check back for the new stats.

KRISTA ERIN BREWER DAY!

Dusty and I have a very special neice and we traveled to Gainesville this weekend to celebrate a day just for her. Saturday, September 6, 2008 was officially declared Krista Erin Brewer day in Gainesville, Texas! We started her day with The Krista Hustle (see next post), there was a horseshoe tournament and the day ended with a benefit dinner and auction for the family.

The benefit was complete with a silent and live auction for some VERY cool items. There was even a live auctioneer! You know the kind who says "One, give me two, who'll give me three?" really fast without taking a breath...yeah, he was there! I participated in the silent auction and "won" a bidding war over an original Paige Davidson handbag from Cahoots Handbags...google it, very cool!

The crowd was huge, over 600 in attendance, so our sweet Krista was understandably quiet for most of the evening, but I did get a couple of pictures of her talking to Dusty and Hudson and loving on Addison. She told Dusty she wanted to get Hudson a sock monkey like hers, so thoughtful! I love the picture of Krista stroking Hudson's hand...a priceless memory!

Krista has a brain tumor, her fourth in her short eleven years. She is an amazing young lady and an inspiration to so many. Krista has touched many lives, even the governor of Texas! He wrote Krista and her family a letter recognizing Krista's life and he encouraged them with scripture. Dusty was asked to read the letter at the benefit and Governor Perry quoted James 5:16..."The prayer of a righteous man is powerful and effective." Dusty and I believe that and ask you to join us in praying for Krista, Justin, Janice and Shelby Brewer. We don't know what lies ahead, but we are trusting in our Heavenly Father and seeking comfort that only He can provide.

We love you Brewer Bunch! We are so glad we were able to come and share this special day with you.

Friends and family, you can check updates on Krista's website: www.kristabrewer.com

The Krista Hustle

We kicked off Krista Erin Brewer day with The Krista Hustle! It was the first annual 2 mile walk to benefit Krista's new Sunshine Scholarship Fund. The walk will raise money each year to provide scholarships for graduating seniors. How great that in the midst of their sadness, this family is thinking of others! Every year, deserving teenagers will receive scholarships to start college...all in Krista's name!

There were over 250 walkers on Saturday morning, all wearing pink, Krista's favorite color! We got there right in time to start walking with the family, so I didn't get any before pictures, but you can see the sea of pink walking the trail and some family pics after. We had a lot of fun and can't wait to do the Krista Hustle again next year!!
